Brener Mateo Sorto was sentenced to three life sentences plus 15 years in prison before Loudoun County Circuit Court Judge Matthew P. Snow on June 6.
He was sentenced for two counts of rape of a child younger than thirteen years old, one count of sodomy of a child younger than thirteen years old, one count of aggravated sexual battery of a child younger than thirteen years old, and one count of indecent liberties taken with a child by a custodian.
Deputies responded to a Chantilly home on April 7, 2022 where they spoke with residents who had found a hidden spy camera in a child's bedroom. An investigation found that camera belonged to Sorto, who co-owned the home and lived there with the victims' mother, aunt, and the victims, Loudoun County officials said.
Detectives learned that Sorto had sexually assaulted two children, the youngest of whom was younger than 10 years old, from 2020 to 2022. Sorto was arrested on June 15, 2023, tried by a jury, and was found guilty of all five charges on December 15, 2023. The matter was continued to June 6, 2024, for sentencing.
During the sentencing hearing, Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Shara Krogh and Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney C. Anthony Needham successfully argued that Sorto’s actions were egregious, and that he never expressed any remorse or took accountability for his actions.
“We hope this sentence brings closure to the child victims and their family and deters sexual predators from victimizing children in Loudoun County,” Krogh said.
